One way to think about feminist theory is to say that it investigates how culture saturates the particularities of bodies with meanings and probes the consequences of those meanings.
–Rosemary Garland-Thomson, “Integrating Disability, Transforming Feminist Theory”
I’m keeping this in mind for the next time I get snared into one of those horrendous “feminists just hate men” conversations. Or when I say I’m in women’s studies and get a blank look and a fumbling… “well, um, what is that exactly?” Or when I feel the need to defend the continued relevance of feminism. Or, hell, just when the conversation lags.
Love this. I may need a bumper sticker.
